Benefits of Concrete Masonry
Concrete Masonry Units provide high thermal mass and thermal storage compared to frame wall construction. The units remain warm or cool long after the heat or air-conditioning has shut off, helping to reduce heating and cooling loads. It also improves occupant comfort by moderating indoor temperature swings and shifts peak heating and cooling loads to off peak hours.
Concrete Masonry Units also improve indoor air quality by eliminating the need to paint when an architectural, ground face or glazed units are used. Concrete Masonry Units do not promote mold growth because it does not provide a ready food source for mold.
Concrete Masonry Units also improve environmental impacts through life-cycle considerations. It also improves fire safety for occupants and property. It improves acoustical performance.
Because of the abundance of local raw materials and units manufactured close to construction sites helps to reduce fuel requirements. Also the units can be produced with recycled aggregates and cementitious materials.
